The author considers the magnitudes \[ \alpha_{n,m}=\min_{p(x)}\max_{0\leq s\leq m}\| p^{(s)}/n(n- 1)\ldots(n-s+1)\|_ 1,\;n\geq m+2,n\geq 0, \] where \(p(x)\) runs through real monical polynomials of degree \(n\), \(\|\cdot\|_ 1\) is the norm in the space \(L_ 1[-1,1]\). The main result of this paper is the following inequality \(2^{-n+m+1}\leq d_{n,m}\leq 2^{- n+m+1}e^{O(m^ 2/n)}\). This result is an extension of \textit{A. O. Gelfond}'s result [Dokl. Akad. Nauk SSSR 96, 689-691 (1954; Zbl 0055.294)], concerning the case when the analogous characteristics are considered in the space \(C[-1,1]\). Some related results for the space \(L_ 2[-1,1]\) are also proved.
