Take the smooth quadric \(Q=\mathbb{P}^1 \times \mathbb{P}^1\) and a curve \(C \subset Q\) of bidegree \((a,b) \geq (1,1)\). The paper under review deals with the problem of the maximality of the rank of the multiplication map induced by the equation \(F\) defining \(Q\), that is the map: \[ H^1({\mathcal O}_Q(r,-t)) \to H^1({\mathcal O}_Q(r+a,-t+b)). \] It is shown the map is maximal for \(r,t \geq 0\) and \(C\) general in the linear system \(|{\mathcal O}_Q(a,b)|\). By the use of standard long exact sequences the proof of the previous result is equivalent to the fact that is contained in Theorem 2.1: if \((a,b) \geq 1\) and \(C\) is as above then for \(h \geq a\) and \(k \leq -2\) one has: \(h^0({\mathcal O}_C(h,k))h^1({\mathcal O}_C(h,k))=0\). This stresses the generality statement on \(C\) because examples of curves not verifying this condition are shown. As the authors write in their abstract: ``Interpretations of this problem in the contexts of multilinear algebra and differential algebra are emphasized.''
