Let \(X\) be a UMD Banach space. Let \(A\),\(B\) and \(M\) be closed operators in \(X\) provided \(D(A)\cap D(B)\subset D(M)\). Consider the third-order degenerate differential equation (\(\alpha,\beta,\gamma\in \mathbb{R}\) ) \[ \alpha(Mu(t))'''+(Mu(t))''=\beta Au(t)+\gamma Bu'(t)+f(t)\quad t\in\mathbb{T}=[0,2\pi] \] in Banach space \(X\) with periodic boundary conditions \[ Mu(0)=Mu(2\pi)\quad (Mu)'(0)=(Mu)'(2\pi)\quad (Mu)''(0)=(Mu)''(2\pi). \] By \(\rho_M(A,B)\) we denote a \(M\)-resolvent set of \(A\) and \(B\). Let \[ N_k=((i\alpha k^3+k^2)M+\beta A+i\gamma kB)^{-1} \] It is proved that the periodic boundary value problem is well-posed in \(L_p(\mathbb{T},X)\) (\(1<p<+\infty\)) iff \(i\mathbb{Z}\subset\rho_M(A,B)\) and the sets \(\{k^3MN_k|k\in\mathbb{Z}\}\), \(\{kBN_k|k\in\mathbb{Z}\}\), \(\{kN_k|k\in\mathbb{Z}\}\) are Rademacher bounded. Let \(B^s_{p,q}(\mathbb{T},X)\) be a Besov space of \(X\)-valued periodic functions (\(1\leq p,q\leq+\infty\), \(s\in\mathbb{R}\)). It is proved that the periodic boundary value problem is well-posed in \(B^s_{p,q}(\mathbb{T},X)\) (\(s>0\)) iff \(i\mathbb{Z}\subset\rho_M(A,B)\) and the sets \(\{k^3MN_k|k\in\mathbb{Z}\}\), \(\{kBN_k|k\in\mathbb{Z}\}\), \(\{kN_k|k\in\mathbb{Z}\}\) are norm bounded. Let \(F^s_{p,q}(\mathbb{T},X)\) be a periodic Triebel-Lizorkin space (\(1\leq p<+\infty\), \(1\leq q\leq+\infty\), \(s\in\mathbb{R}\)). It is shown that the periodic boundary value problem is well-posed in \(F^s_{p,q}(\mathbb{T},X)\) (\(s>0\)) iff \(i\mathbb{Z}\subset\rho_M(A,B)\) and the sets \(\{k^3MN_k|k\in\mathbb{Z}\}\), \(\{kBN_k|k\in\mathbb{Z}\}\), \(\{kN_k|k\in\mathbb{Z}\}\) are norm bounded. Some applications for ordinary and partial differential equations are given.
