    The authors discuss the existence of solutions for nonlinear elliptic problems \[ \begin{cases} -\Delta u =\frac{\lambda(1+\delta|\nabla u|^2)}{(1-u)^p} & \text{ in } \Omega,\\ 0 \leq u < 1 & \text{ in } \Omega,\\ u = 0 & \text{ on } \partial\Omega, \end{cases} \] where \(\Omega\) is an open bounded subset of \(\mathbb{R}^N\), \(N\geq 2\), \(p>1\), and \(\lambda\), \(\delta\) are positive constants. Using variational methods, the authors prove the existence of a \(\lambda_\delta^\ast>0\) such that for \( \lambda > \lambda_\delta^\ast\) the problem admits no solution, for \( \lambda =\lambda_\delta^\ast\) there is a unique solution, and for \( 0< \lambda < \lambda_\delta^\ast\) there exist at least two solutions.
