The author uses renormalized traces of classical pseudo-differential operators on classes of pseudo-differential operators and symbolic calculus on formal symbols. On the Lie algebra of classical pseudo-differential operators \(Cl(S^1,\mathbb C^n)\) acting on \(L^2(S^1,\mathbb C^n)\), three cocycles are constructed: first, the Schwinger functional \(C_s^D\) associated with the Dirac operator and, furthermore, there are two bilinear functionals \(c_+^D\) and \(c_{++}^D\) satisfying \(\frac 12 c_S^D = c_+^D - c_{++}^D\) and which are also cocycles. Moreover, \(\frac 12 c_S^D\) and \(c_+^D\) have the same nonvanishing cohomology class. Finally, \(c_+^D\) is calculated for classical pseudo-differential operators of order \(1\) in terms of partial symbols. This calculation recovers the Virasoro cocycle and the Kähler form of the loop group.
