\textit{S. Gołąb} and \textit{A. Schinzel} [Publ. Math., Debrecen 6, 113--125 (1959; Zbl 0083.35004)] introduced the functional equation \[ f(x+f(x)y) = f(x) f(y) \] in connection with the determination of subgroups of the centroaffine group of the plane. The author characterizes general solutions \(f, g, h, k : X \to \mathbb{K}\) of the Pexider Gołab-Schinzel equation \[ f(x+g(x)y) = h(x) k(y),\tag{1} \] where \(X\) is a linear space over a commutative field \(\mathbb{K}\), and continuous general solutions \(f, g, h, k : \mathbb{R} \to \mathbb{R}\) of the Pexider Gołab-Schinzel equation (1).
