A countable collection of univariate functions \(\{A_0, A_1, \ldots, A_n, \ldots\}\) is called orthogonal to lower degree polynomials if \(A_n \perp (\cdot)^k\) holds for all \(\mathbb N_0\ni k < n\) and any \(n\in \mathbb N_0\). The properties of such countable collections of functions are studied and an effective method for the solution of Fredholm integral equations of the first kind whose kernels are generating functions for these collections is presented. The results are then applied to axially symmetric problems arising in physics.
