The authors study the modified Camassa-Holm equation \(y_t+2u_xy+uy_x=0\), \(y=(1-\partial_x^2)^2u\) in the scale of Besov spaces. Main results include the local well-posedness in the space \(B^{7/2}_{2,1}\) and the ill-posedness in \(B^{7/2}_{2,\infty}\). Some cases when the solution map is not uniformly continuous are also shown.
