The Ritz method is used to obtain an eigenvalue equation for free vibrations of a class of solids. Each solid is a segment bounded by orthogonal coordinate planes as well as by two curved surfaces defined by polynomial expressions in the Cartesian coordinates. Simple algebraic polynomials that satisfy the boundary conditions at the five surfaces of the segment are used as trial functions. Using symmetry, the range of application of the model is broadened to include thick shells with various shaped cavities.
