The authors use the known apparatus of slow and fast invariant manifolds [\textit{V. A. Sobolev}, Syst. Control Lett. 5, 169--179 (1984; Zbl 0552.93017)] in the case when the ODE system under consideration is formally represented as a linear combination of slow and fast subsystems. A simple chemical kinetic model is used as an example.
