Let \(f:(\mathbb{C}^{n+1},0)\to(\mathbb{C}^n,0)\) be a germ of a holomorphic function and \(H\) the zero set of \(f\). A'Campo gave a formula for the zeta function and the Euler characteristic of its Milnor fiber in terms of a normal crossings resolution \(\pi:(\chi,{\mathcal D})\to(\mathbb{C}^{n+1},0)\) of \(H\) which is an isomorphism outside \(H\). main object of this paper is to give a generalization of the theorem of A'Campo for the case when the modification \(\pi:(\chi,{\mathcal D})\to(\mathbb{C}^{n+1},0)\) is not a resolution of singularities. The authors obtain the zeta function of \(f\) in terms of the zeta function of the lifting \(\varphi=f\circ\pi\) at points of the exceptional divisor. They give some applications.
