The Cauchy problem \[ u_t+ \operatorname{div} f(u)=-\operatorname{div}q, \qquad -\nabla \operatorname{div}q + q=-\nabla u, \qquad u(.,0)=u_0 \] is considered. Global well-posedness is proved and the hyperbolic-parabolic and hyperbolic-hyperbolic relaxation limits are analyzed.
