In this paper, the authors investigate the bifurcation of a generalized heteroclinic loop in planar piecewise smooth systems with a time-periodic perturbation. For the unperturbed system, it is assumed that there exists a generalized heteroclinic loop which contains a hyperbolic critical point and a quadratic tangential singularity at the switching manifold. By applying the Menikov's theory on displacement functions involving a perturbation parameter and the time, the authors derive sufficient conditions for the persistence of the general heteroclinic loop which lies partially on the switching manifold. A planar piecewise linear system with simple harmonic perturbation is provided to illustrate the validity of the theory.
