Some useful criterions on stability and order of a planar analytic nilpotent focus are given, which avoid tedious calculation caused by the conversion to the Liénard normal form of the equilibrium. It should be noted that the in-depth investigation of a center or focus is still difficult for a nilpotent singularity of a general system.
