Let \(\mathbb K\) be the field of real numbers or complex numbers, and let \(f \colon \mathbb K^n \rightarrow \mathbb K\) be a polynomial function. Due to R.Thom a point \(z \in \mathbb K\) is called an atypical value of the polynomial \(f\) if for any neighborhood \(U\) of \(z\) in \(\mathbb K\) the corresponding map \(f\) does not induce a locally trivial smooth fibration \(f^{-1}(U)\rightarrow U\). In the paper under review the authors introduce the notion of atypical value from infinity for complex polynomials and give geometrical proofs of main results of \textit{S. A. Broughton} [Proc. Symp. Pure Math. 40, Part 1, 167--178 (1983; Zbl 0526.14010); Invent. Math. 92, No. 2, 217--241 (1988; Zbl 0658.32005)]. They also discuss in detail a series of related results, interesting applications and open problems and questions.
