In the context of hyperbolic equations, the authors study the Bresse system, that is a boundary value problem for a linear elastic one-dimensional circular arch. Thus they consider a PDE system of three equations, complemented with natural initial conditions and Dirichlet-Neumann conditions. Moreover there is a pointwise dissipation mechanism acting at one endpoint only (partial boundary dissipation), which takes the form of a boundary condition involving the displacement derivatives and may be of three types: it may involve the longitudinal, the vertical, or the shear angle displacement. The authors assume that the wave speeds appearing in the equations are equal and that the system is conservative in some directions. Employing a semigroup setting, the authors prove that the system stabilizes exponentially. To this end, it is sufficient that a single boundary dissipative mechanism is active in one of the equations only.
