The authors consider a family of discrete functionals constructed by modifying the elliptic ones proposed by Ambrosio and Tortorelli, with the quadratic term of the energy related to the edges of the segmentation replaced by a nonconvex integral. They prove that such family converges in the sense of \(\Gamma\)-convergence to the Mumford-Shah image segmentation functional.
