Let \(G\) be a finite group, \(p\) a prime number and \((F,R,K)\) be a \(p\)-modular system such that \(F\) and \(K\) are splitting fields for every subgroup of \(G\). The author proves some \(p\)-local characterization of extended block induction of \(G\) introduced by \textit{W. W. Wheeler} [J. Lond. Math. Soc., II. Ser. 49, No. 1, 73-82 (1994; Zbl 0799.20011)] and studies the behaviour of principal blocks under extended induction. He also examines whether properties (such as transitivity) of other types of induction hold for extended induction.
