In the paper under review, the authors consider the general unimodular Fourier multipliers \(e^{it\phi(h(D))}\), where \(0<h\) defined on \(\mathbb{R}^n\) is a \(C^\infty(\mathbb{R}^n\setminus \{0\})\) homogeneous function of degree \(\lambda > 0\), and \(\phi:\mathbb{R}\to\mathbb{R}\) is smooth and satisfies (A1) There exists a constant \(m_1 > 0\) such that for all \(\mu\in N_0 := N \cup \{0\}\) \[ |\phi^{(\mu)}(r)|\leq Cr^{m_1-\mu},\quad r \geq 1; \] (A2) There exists constant \(m_2 > 0\) such that for all \(\mu\in N_0\) \[ |\phi^{(\mu)}(r)| \leq Cr^{m_2-\mu},\quad 0 < r < 1. \] The main result is the following boundedness of \(e^{it\phi(h(D))}\) on modulation spaces \(M^{s}_{p,q}\), which generalizes a previous result by \textit{J. Chen} et al. [Discrete Contin. Dyn. Syst. 32, No. 2, 467--485 (2012; Zbl 1241.42010)]. Suppose that \(s\in\mathbb{R}\) and \(1\leq p,q\leq\infty\). Let \(\phi\) and \(h\) be as above. Then it holds that \[ \|e^{it\phi(h(D))}f\|_{M^{s}_{p,q}}\leq C\left\{\|f\|_{M^{s}_{p,q}}+|t|^{n|1/2-1/p|}\|f\|_{M^{s+\gamma(m_1,\lambda)}_{p,q}}\right\}, \] where \(\gamma(m_1,\lambda)=n(m_1\lambda-2)|1/2-1/p|\). As applications, the authors further investigate the grow-up rates of the solutions for the Cauchy problems for the generalized wave equation, the Klein-Gordon type equation and the two types of free Schrödinger equations with initial data in modulation spaces.
