A parabolic \(p\)-Laplacian equation with a nonlinear source is considered. The nonlinear source has a coefficient that depends strongly on the space variables. Solvability of the Cauchy problem is studied when the initial function is merely locally integrable or even a Radon measure. A uniqueness result is also shown, and existence of initial traces of nonnegative solutions is discussed.
