Let \(f: [0,1]\to C\), \(q> 0\). The \(q\)-Bernstein polynomial of \(f\) is defined as \[ B_n(f,q;x)= \sum^n_{k=0} f\Biggl({[k]_q\over [n]_q}\Biggr){n\brack k}_q x^k \prod^{n-1-k}_{j=0} (1- q^jx), \] \(n= 1,2,\dots,[n]_q= 1+ q+\cdots +q^{n-1}[n]_q!= [1]_q[2]_q\cdots [n]_q\) and \({n\brack k}_q= {[n]_q!\over [k]_q![n- k]!}\). The main result of this paper is the following Theorem. There exists a sequence \(0< \delta_n\downarrow 0\) such that the condition \(1\leq q_n\leq 1+ 8_n\) implies for any \(f\in C[0,1]\), \[ \| B_n(f,q_n; x)- f(x)\|\leq {\| f\|\over\sqrt{n}}+ {5\over 2}\omega_1\Biggl({1\over\sqrt{n}}\Biggr), \] where \(\omega_f\) denotes the modulus of continuity of \(f\).
