Let \({\mathfrak g}\) be a finite-dimensional Lie algebra over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero and \({\mathbb T}\) a maximal torus of derivations of \({\mathfrak g}\) (i.e. maximal abelian subalgebra whose elements are semisimple endomorphisms). Then, \({\mathbb T}\) induces a decomposition of \({\mathfrak g}\) into weight spaces which leads to the definition of a weight system for \({\mathfrak g}\) [see \textit{G. Favre}, Manuscr. Math. 9, 53--90 (1973; Zbl 0253.17011)]. For any weight system, one may define an associated graph as follows: the vertices are the whole set of weights and two vertices are joined if the sum of the corresponding weights is not a weight. This graph is defined to be the weight graph of \({\mathfrak g}\). In this paper, and with the previous terminology, the authors characterize, in terms of completeness of subgraphs of weight graphs, the two step solvable semidirect product Lie algebras \({\mathfrak g}\oplus {\mathbb S}\) with the following restrictions: \({\mathfrak g}\) is a complex and nonsplit (i.e., \({\mathfrak g}\) does not decompose as direct sum of ideals) nilpotent Lie algebra and \({\mathbb S}\) is a subalgebra of a maximal torus of derivations of \({\mathfrak g}\) which induces a decomposition into one-dimensional nonzero weight spaces.
