Let \(X\) be a completely regular topological space and \(C_p(X)\) denote the space of continuous real valued functions on \(X\) with the topology of pointwise convergence. A filter \({\mathcal F}\) on a set \(S\) is said to be countably tight provided that, for every \(C\subset S\) which meets each member of \({\mathcal F}\), there is a countable subset \(D\subset C\) which meets each member of \({\mathcal F}\). We modify this definition to get the definition of tight filter by replacing \(C\) and \(D\) with collections of filters generated by the tails of countable sequences. We say that \(C_p(X)\) is countably tight (tight) in case each of its neighborhood filters is countably tight (tight). In the present paper the author extends the technical apparatus developed by himself and \textit{F. Mynard} [Topology Appl. 153, No. 14, 2386--2412 (2006; Zbl 1188.54007)] to analyze these and other productive local properties. He shows, among other things, that if every point of \(X\) is a \(G_\delta\) set, then \(C_p(X)\) is tight if, and only if, \(X\) is countable. He gives a counterexample to a question raised by G. Gruenhage and poses a number of open questions.
