Periodic orbits of Hamiltonian diffeomorphisms of symplectic manifolds are very important objects in the study of Hamiltonian dynamics. The Conley conjecture, which was originally stated for the standard torus and was later shown to be true for a wide class of symplectic manifolds, says that every Hamiltonian diffeomorphism has infinitely many simple contractible periodic orbits. The so-called generic Conley conjecture states that ``almost all'' Hamiltonian diffeomorphisms have infinitely many simple contractible periodic orbits on every closed symplectic manifold. The author shows this conjecture is true for ``almost all'' closed symplectic manifolds. More precisely, the author proves that, if the symplectic manifold has either odd half dimension, or nontrivial rational odd homology, or minimal Chern number greater than one, then the conjecture is true.
