It is known that between generic systems (vortex systems) having a finite number of equilibria, and the systems associated with a bilinear differential equation having positive-dimensional sets of equilibrium configurations lies a considerable gap. The purpose of this work is to narrow this gap. The basic tools in this study are several new polynomial systems for finding vortex equilibrium configurations. These systems are minimal in the sense having minimal total degree.
