A compact Kähler manifold~\(X\) is said to be \textit{approximable by projective manifolds} if there exists a proper submersion \(\pi: \mathcal{X} \to \Delta\), where \(\Delta\) is the unit disk in some \(\mathbb{C}^N\), such that \(\pi^{-1}(0) \cong X\) and there is a sequence \(t_k \to 0\) in \(\Delta\) where all \(\pi^{-1}(t_k)\) are projective. It is a classical result in surface classification theory that any compact Kähler surface can be approximated by projective surfaces. More recently, however, [\textit{C. Voisin}, Invent. Math. 157, No. 2, 323--343 (2004; Zbl 1065.32010)] gave examples in every dimension \(\geq 4\) for compact Kähler manifolds that fail to be approximable by projective manifolds. It is still open whether approximability holds for all compact Kähler threefolds. The article under review shows that for a compact Kähler manifold \(X\) of arbitrary dimension, certain semipositivity or seminegativity properties of the curvature of \(X\) are sufficient to ensure approximability by projective manifolds. More precisely, the author proves that \(X\) can be approximated by projective manifolds if any one of the following conditions is satisfied: (1) \(-K_X\) is hermitian semipositive, (2) \(X\) has a real analytic metric with nonpositive bisectional curvature, (3) \(T_X\) is nef.
