The authors derive individual-based models of cellular migration in dimensions less or equal 3. These continuous models consist of partial differential equations of diffusion type and take into account the volume exclusion, i.e., that cells occupy certain space in the domain and thus obstruct others from moving. Extensions to the cases of multiple species (with different sizes and migration speeds) are also given. The effect of volume exclusion is particularly important when biased movement is included, e.g., in chemotaxis. Results of simulations are given.
