The structure of the ordered monoid \(\Lambda (G)\) of intervals of any partially ordered group \(G\) (i.e., nonempty, upward directed lower subsets of \(G)\) is investigated. A lot of results are obtained. In particular, it is proved that even in most natural cases, multiplier groups of dimension groups often fail to be interpolation groups (the negative solution of K. R. Gooderl's problem). It is also shown that Hahn powers of the reals can be characterized by a first-order sentence on the interval monoid.
