The influence of nonuniformities on the propagation of solitons in a lattice of mass points with Toda interactions is studied. In particular the soliton behaviour at an interface between hard and soft spring and at single soft springs imbedded into a hard lattice is investigated. It is shown that the relative high residence time at soft springs leads to specific superposition and fusion effects. The possibility of local energy accumulation due to soliton superposition at soft springs is investigated.
