An entire function f(z) is said to be utterly integral valued if f(x) and all its derivatives assume integer values for all integers z. The author presents a historical survey of the theory of such functions. In addition he proves a number of new results. In particular he shows that an utterly integer valued transcendental entire function must be of infinite order and there exists a non- denumerable set of such functions. But the author and the reviewer are students of the late Ernst G. Straus in whose memory the paper was written. Prof. Straus was a major contributor to the subject and the reviewer remembers the many exciting lectures that Prof. Straus delivered on the subject, usually in internal sessions with his students.
