The authors investigate bifurcations of periodic solutions of a dry friction oscillator, which is modelled by a mass on a rough surface, which is excited periodically and elastically connected to a fixed wall. After a short introduction into Filippov systems and different types of sliding bifurcations, the shooting method used in the numerical investigations is shortly explained. By variation of the Coulomb friction coefficient and the excitation frequency, a quite complicated bifurcation diagram is obtained. It is demonstrated, that a number of codimension-two sliding bifurcation points act as organizing centers for codimension-one bifurcations. Two representative codimension-two bifurcation points are analyzed and unfolded in detail, demonstrating a rich dynamic behaviour of an apparently quite simple mechanical model. The numerical investigation also shows that the dynamic response of the system is more complicated than anticipated by analytic methods.
