Quasi-interpolation with piecewise-polynomial splines is studied for the purpose of continuous and discrete approximation and obtaining convergence results. The splines are twice-differentiable piecewise cubic functions obtained from a 6-direction mesh. Error estimates are provided when the approximands are sufficiently smooth, and in fact the optimal convergence rates obtainable with piecewise cubics are established. Also the approximation to the first derivatives of the approximands is studied. Several numerical examples are provided to illustrate the results.
