A special case of Zariski's multiplicity conjecture [\textit{O. Zariski}, Bull. Am. Math. Soc. 77, 481--491 (1971; Zbl 0236.14002)] is proved: Let \(F:(\mathbb{C}^n\times \mathbb{C}, 0)\to (\mathbb{C}, 0)\) be a one parameter deformation of a holomorphic germ \(f: (\mathbb{C}^n, 0)\to (\mathbb {C}, 0)\) with an isolated singularity such that the Milnor number \(\mu(F_t)\) is constant. Suppose the Newton polyhedron of \(F_t\) is non-degenerate (in the sense of \textit{A. G. Kushnirenko} [Invent. Math. 32, 1--31 (1976; Zbl 0328.32007)]) for every \(t\). Then \(F_t\) is topologically trivial, and moreover, the multiplicity \(m(F_t)\) is constant. The following deformation of \(f=x^{13}+y^{20}+z^7+x^6y^5 z\) which is \(\mu\)-constant with non-degenerate Newton polyhedron but not constant Newton polyhedron shows the result is non-trivial and interesting: \(F_t=f+tx^6 y^8+t^2x^{10}y^3\).
