In this paper holomorphic mappings between Riemann surfaces are studied. Let \(\mathfrak{T}\) be the space of marked once-holed tori, which is a 3-dimensional real-analytic manifold with boundary. Given a marked once-holed torus \(X_0\) and a Riemann surface \(Y_0\) with marked handle, there may not exist a holomorphic mapping from \(X_0\) into \(Y_0\). The set of marked once-holed tori which allow holomorphic mappings into \(Y_0\) is denoted by \(\mathfrak{T}_a[Y_0]\). The author is interested in the geometric properties of this set. For that, an order relation is defined between the elements of \(\mathfrak{T}\). This space becomes ordered but not totally ordered. Then, the author introduces the concept of handle condition. Elementary properties and several examples of handle conditions are given, and marked once-holed tori satisfying a handle condition are studied. The obtained results are applied to marked once-holed tori allowing holomorphic mappings. In the last two sections quantitative results about critical extremal lengths are given, first for a handle condition, and then for the existence of holomorphic mappings.
