An almost simple group is a group \(G\) containing a simple group \(S\), and contained in the automorphism group of \(S\). Many such groups are automorphism groups of abstract polytopes, and indeed, for a given group, there may be many abstract polytopes which have that group as their automorphism group. The authors of this article have enumerated, for each almost simple group \(G\) with associated simple group of order up to 900000, the regular polytopes having \(G\) as automorphism group. This was done with the aid of some computer programs written in Magma. The article gives extensive tables summarising the polytopes found. The authors have also produced a website, \url{http://cso.ulb.ac.be/~dleemans/polytopes/}, which contains far more detailed information about the polytopes than would fit in a published article. There are also some theoretical results regarding polytopes whose automorphism groups are rank 2 linear groups or Suzuki groups.
