The paper discusses the connection between the Stockwell transform (S-transform), a new tool for time-frequency analysis, and the traditional continuous wavelet transform. It is shown that -- up to minor modifications -- the S-transform is a special case of the latter using a Morlet-type mother wavelet, and hence the full power of wavelets applies. In particular, the well-established wavelet theory can be applied to develop the mathematical theory of the S-transform having attractive physical interpretation in certain fields.
