The index of symmetry of a homogeneous Riemannian manifold is the maximal number of linearly independent Killing vector fields which are parallel at the given point. There is the corresponding \(G\)-invariant distribution of symmetry which is integrable with totally geodesic leaves and the leaves are isometric to a symmetric space. The index (and co-index) of symmetry measures how far the manifold is from a symmetric space. Results about the symmetry distribution on particular spaces were obtained in previous works, mostly for compact manifolds. In particular, the classification of compact homogeneous spaces with co-index of symmetry less or equal to 3, was obtained. In the present paper, homogeneous spaces admitting a metric with co-index of symmetry equal to 4 are determined. New interesting structures are observed.
