Let \(X\) be a projective manifold with a very ample polarization \({\mathcal O}_X(H)\), and let \(E\) be a principal \(G\)-bundle. The authors study the question, whether (semi)stability of \(E\) remains valid when restricting \(E\) to general complete intersections \(Z = D_1 \cap D_2 \cap \ldots \cap D_c\) with \(D_i \in | a_i \cdot H| \). The answer is, very similar to the case of vector bundles, affirmative under conditions which are well known from the restriction theorems for vector bundles. They prove a Grauert-Mülich theorem (Theorem 4.1) for principal bundles which gives concrete bounds for the degree of instability of the restriction of a semistable bundle \(E\) to a general complete intersection \(Z\). Theorem 5.1 is a generalization of Flenner's theorem, which provides a bound \(M\) such that the restriction of a semistable \(E\) to \(Z\) is semistable too for \(a_i \geq M\). Finally, they provide a generalization of the Mehta-Ramanathan restriction theorem (Theorem 6.2). Thus, they show for \(a_i \gg 0\) and \(E\) stable, the stability of \(E| _Z\) for a general \(Z\).
