The standard way to calculate the monodromy matrix M for autonomous systems of n first-order differential equations requires storage proportional to \(n^ 2\). Two new algorithms for calculating M are proposed; the first, by integrating a differential equation of order \(2n+2\), requires storage of order n. The second is applicable if the periodic solution is calculated by multiple shooting and involves nearly no work. Numerical methods are included discussing features of both algorithms.
