Let \(A\) be a *-derivation on \(C[0,1]\), define the operator \(pD\) on \(C[0,1]\) by \([pD](x)=p(x)f'(x)\), \(p\) is real valued in \(C[0,1]\). The author defines also accretive, and m-accretive operators on Banach spaces, the operator \(A\) is said to be well-behaved if \(A\) and \((-A)\) are accretive. The author proves that \(A\) generates a continuous group \(\{T_ t,t\in {\mathbb{R}}\}\) of *-automorphisms (i.e., \((-A)x=\lim_{t\to 0}\frac{1}{t}(T_ tx-x))\) if and only if \(A\) is equivalent to the closure \(\overline{pD}\) of \(pD\). It is also proved that every well-behaved *-derivation on \(C[0,1]\) has an extension (possibly on a larger space) that generates a continuous group of *-automorphisms. Finally the author gives a partial solution of an unsolved problem (Does an accretive operator on a Banach space have an extension (possibly on a larger space) that is \(m\)-accretive?) by showing that every well-behaved *-derivation on \(C[0,1]\) has an \(m\)-accretive extension.
