The author considers the asymptotic distribution of alternation points in the best real uniform approximation to a real function \(f\in C[-1,1]\) in the set of polynomials. In particular, it is shown that the convergence (in the weak star topology) of a discrete measure, constructed by counting the alternation points, to the equilibrium distribution of \([-1,1]\) depends on growth properties of \(f\).
