The authors improve the Schoen-Uhlenbeck estimate on the Hausdorff dimension of the singular set of an energy minimizing harmonic map \(u\in H^1(\Omega, S^k)\) of a bounded smooth domain \(\Omega\subset\mathbb{R}^n\) to the \(k\)-sphere \(S^k\). The improvement is for \(4\leq k\leq 7\), and it states that the Hausdorff dimension of the singular set of a stable-stationary harmonic map \(u\in H^1(\Omega, S^k)\) is at most \(n-\widehat d(k)-1\), where \(\widehat d(3)= 3\), \(\widehat d(4)= 4\), \(\widehat d(5)=\widehat d(6)= \widehat d(7)= 5\). They also show that the singular set of a stable-stationary harmonic map \(u: B^5\to s^3\) is the union of finitely many isolated singular points and finitely many Hölder continuous curves.
