The celebrated Gieseker-Petri theorem shows that if \(C\in \mathcal M_g\) is a general projective curve of genus \(g\), then for any line bundle \(L\) on \(C\), the multiplication map \(\mu_L:H^0(L)\otimes H^0(K_C\otimes L^{-1}) \to H^0(K_C)\) injects. Several results are known for the dimension of the Gieseker-Petri locus \(GP_{g,d}^r\subset\mathcal M_g\) of curves having a linear series \(L=g^r_d\) for which the map \(\mu_L\) is not injective. In particular, several divisorial components of the locus \(GP_g=\bigcup GP_{g,d}^r\) are known in the literature. The author considers the case of curves \(C\) of genus \(8\). Performing the analysis of a special plane model \(\Gamma\) of \(C\), the author proves that the locus \(GP^1_{8,6}\) is irreducible, hence it is an irreducible divisor in \(\mathcal M_8\). From the result, it follows that \(GP_8\) is pure of codimension \(1\) in \(\mathcal M_8\).
