There are many geometric properties that imply that a Banach space with the property has the weak fixed point property for nonexpansive mappings, i.e., that every nonexpansive self-mapping of a weakly compact convex subset of the Banach space admits a fixed point. In [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 340, No. 2, 1088--1095 (2008; Zbl 1140.47041)], \textit{T. Suzuki} introduced a larger class of mappings, and several authors have shown that certain geometric properties known to imply the fixed point property for nonexpansive mappings also imply the fixed point property for this larger collection of Suzuki mappings. In the article under review, the authors consider Suzuki-type mappings defined as follows: Let \((M,d)\) be a metric space and \(0<\lambda<1\). A mapping \(T:M\to M\) is a \(C_\lambda\)-mapping if, for each \(x, y\in M\) satisfying \(\lambda d(x, Tx)\leq d(x,y)\), then \(d(Tx, Ty) \leq d(x,y)\). The authors prove that Banach spaces with extended unconditional bases satisfy the weak fixed point property for \(C_\lambda\)-mappings if the unconditional constant of the basis is small enough. This generalizes a result of \textit{P.-K. Lin} [Pac. J. Math. 116, 69--76 (1985; Zbl 0566.47038)]. The authors also provide results on the stability of the weak fixed point property for \(C_\lambda\)-mappings under renormings of Banach spaces.
