Consider the lattice \(L(X)\) of Čech closure operators on a set \(X\). An operator \(V\) is an upper neighbour of an operator \(U\) if \(V\) is finer than \(U\) and there exist no operators strictly between \(U\) and \(V\). The paper contains an analysis of some classes of closure operators. The main result states that a first countable \(T_1\) closure operator on \(X\) has no upper neighbour in \(L(X)\).
