The author studies Frobenius-Lusztig kernels \(\widetilde{\mathfrak u}\). They occur for \(q\)-deformed enveloping algebras \(U_q ({\mathfrak g})\) if \(q\) is a root of unity and are a generalization of the Frobenius kernel arising out of the fact that \((x+y)^l= x^l+ y^l\) if \(l\) is the order of \(q\) and \(yx= qxy\). Lusztig introduced these Frobenius-Lusztig kernels by using generators and relations. Eric Müller shows that Frobenius-Lusztig kernels satisfy a certain universal property with respect to a bilinear form generalizing the Killing form. He then studies the triangular parts of \(\widetilde{\mathfrak u}\), its coradical filtration, and its Hopf algebra automorphisms. In the second part of the paper the author determines the sub Hopf algebras of Frobenius-Lusztig kernels and factor bialgebras of certain Frobenius-Lusztig kernels. He studies the quasi-triangular structures and shows that they all admit ribbon elements. These paper constitute the major part of the author's doctoral thesis.
