Let $R$ be a commutative integral domain and let $f(t)$ be a nonconstant monic polynomial in $R[t]$. In the paper under review the authors consider the ideal $I_f$ of $R[t]$ generated by $f(t)$ and study the automorphisms of the non-unitary algebra $I_f$. The first main result describes $\text{Aut}(I_f)$ when $f(t)=(t-a)^n$, $a\in R$, $n\geq 1$. The authors prove that in this case $\text{Aut}(I_f)$ is isomorphic to the multiplicative group $R^{\times}$ of $R$. Then they describe $\text{Aut}(I_f)$ when $f(t)$ has at least two different roots in the algebraic closure of the quotient field of $R$. Under mild restrictions on $f(t)$ the group $\text{Aut}(I_f)$ is cyclic and its order can be completely determined by analyzing the roots of $f(t)$.
