    Using the notions of \(\alpha\)-continuous and \(\alpha\)-singular function introduced by \textit{B. Bonilla, J. J. Trujillo} and \textit{M. Rivero} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 231, No. 1, 205-212 (1999; Zbl 0921.26005)] the authors establish the following generalized Taylor formula , involving the Riemann-Liouville fractional derivatives \[ f(x)= \sum\limits_{j=0}^n \frac{c_j}{\Gamma((j+1)\alpha)} (x-a)^{(j+1)\alpha-1}+R_n (x,\alpha), \] where \[ R_n (x,\alpha)=\frac{D_a^{(n+1)\alpha}f(\xi)}{\Gamma((n+1)\alpha+1)} (x-a)^{(n+1)\alpha}, \quad a\leq\xi\leq x, \] \[ c_j=\Gamma(\alpha)\left[(x-a)^{(1-\alpha)}D_a^{j\alpha}f(a^+)\right],\quad j=0,1,\dots, n. \] Some applications to differential equations of fractional order are also given.
