    The existence of the maximal (compact) attractor in \(L^2({\mathbb R}^n)\) is shown for the following quasilinear degenerate parabolic equation \[ \partial_t u - \sum_{i=1}^n \partial_{x_i} \left( \left| \partial_{x_i} u\right|^{p-2}\;\partial_{x_i} u \right) + \lambda\;| u|^{p-2}\;u + f(x,u) = g(x)\,, \quad (t,x)\in (0,\infty)\times {\mathbb R}^n\,, \] when \(\lambda>0\), \(p>2\), and \(f\) and \(g\) satisfy suitable conditions. As usual, the lack of compactness of the embedding of \(W^{1,p}({\mathbb R}^n)\) in \(L^p({\mathbb R}^n)\) is overcome by splitting the solution into a compact part and an asymptotically small one.
