Es gelingt Verf., eine Brücke zu schlagen zwischen zwei grundsätzlich verschiedenen Verfahren, den asymptotisch wirkungsvollsten Proben (asymptotically most powerful tests) und der Methode der optimalen Schätzung (maximum likelihood). Zwischen den Ergebnissen zweier getrennter Schulen, die in scheinbar divergierenden Richtungen gearbeitet haben, stellt Verf. damit eine beachtliche Verbindung her.
